Great Falls Grandeur
Location: Great Falls, VA
Architect: Paul Davey, AIA
From the earliest discussions through completion, the client’s vision for their upscale, modern home was focused and unchanging. Drawn to modern architecture with a splash of industrial touches, we endeavored to build a home purposefully designed to accommodate large scale dining and entertaining without feeling too ostentatious or frivolous. The materials throughout are first rate and the use of wood, stone, oversized-windows and a dramatic shed roof over the entrance, make for a rich and stunning welcome. At over 10,000 square feet, the home is large by any measure but the pod-like design and terraced arrangement of the key living, sleeping and entertaining spaces make the home feel cozy and manageable. A two-story foyer, high ceilings, generous spaces and floating stairs make the interior feel fresh and inviting. The custom doors, wide-plank flooring, dimensional porcelain tile, stone surfaces, and artistic use of color, texture and scale remind you that this is no ordinary home. Rather it’s a masterpiece of modern architecture and living.
The back of the home is just as dramatic as the front, but the more generous use of wood and landscape lighting make for a storybook setting, not unlike something you might see at a national park. Stone patios dominate the terraced backyard. The covered porch features remotely operated screens and a gas fireplace for year-round entertaining. The open patio comes complete with a sizeable outdoor grill, a pizza oven, a tandoori grill, beverage coolers and also has a gas fire feature for ambiance and cool nights.
